Background and Context of the Proposal:

The Delhi Wheelchair Cricket Association (DWCA) has been at the forefront of promoting adaptive sports for individuals with physical disabilities, particularly through the fast-growing sport of wheelchair cricket. Recognizing the transformative power of sports in building confidence, resilience, and social inclusion, DWCA has successfully engaged many aspiring para-athletes across Delhi and beyond. Despite significant progress in disability rights and inclusion, persons with disabilities in India continue to face limited opportunities for participation in mainstream sports. Wheelchair cricket, a dynamic and competitive adaptation of the traditional game, serves as a powerful platform to challenge stereotypes and demonstrate that disability is not a limitation but a different ability. In this context, DWCA proposes to organize a Wheelchair Cricket Tournament/Event aimed at:

  • Providing athletes with disabilities a professional and competitive platform to showcase their talents.
  • Raising awareness about adaptive sports and the need for accessible infrastructure..
  • Engaging the wider community to foster empathy, inclusion, and social cohesion.
  • Encouraging more individuals with disabilities to take up sports and lead active, empowered lives.

The event is envisioned as a milestone in the journey toward inclusive sports in India, bringing together athletes, supporters, institutions, and stakeholders under a shared vision of equality and excellence. This proposal outlines the plan, objectives, and support required to successfully execute the event and ensure lasting impact on the lives of the participants and the broader community.
